an ululating summer like birdsong through trees

that peculiar august languor of daisy chains,

bumblebees and careless ease,

and the seventies.

canal boat days still and mesmeric.

dragonflies dart and hover

with their strange air of expectancy,

bait and switch, invite and tease.
